PALO ALTO, Calif. (KCBS) -- A new course being offered at Stanford is not for students, but instead, their parents. The University is now aiming to educate mom and dad about the social networking phenomenon, Facebook.
KCBS’ Matt Bigler Reports
First of all, if you don't know what Facebook is, this course is for you. It's called "Facebook for Parents," a four-part lecture series, with a lab, where students provide one-on-one Facebook tutoring.
”I think it’s fantastic actually, that the course is being offered,” said Larry Rosen, a psychology professor at Cal State Dominquez Hills, and the author of “Me Myspace and I: Parenting the Net Generation.” “Parents are very interested in finding out what their kids are doing online, and by and large the kids want them to see what they’re doing.”
However, some Stanford students disagree.
”Because it’s a social networking tool for our age group, I feel like my parents wouldn’t have the same appreciation for some of the content that goes on Facebook,” said Elaine Huspany, a junior at Stanford.
Rosen says Facebook has now surpassed Myspace as the #1 social networking site on the web. facebookforparents.org
