OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS) -- The Alameda County District Attorney's office received a petition with more than than 20,000 signatures Tuesday, demanding that a second BART police officer be charged in the shooting of Oscar Grant.
Former officer Johannes Mehserle is facing murder charges for shooting and killing Grant, 22, in the back while he was lying face down. The incident happened on New Year's day at the Fruitvale station when officers responded to reports of a fight onboard a train.
Cell phone video has emerged showing a second BART officer punching Grant even though he did not appear to be resisting arrest.

"We want to know why the district attorney isn't investigating or charging officer Tony Pirone," said James Rucker, executive director of Color of Change.
The petitions were accepted by district attorney investigator Rick Marchitello.
