Bay Area Women Track Female Bloggers

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KCBS)  -- Three Bay Area women want to make the web a little more female-friendly, particularly when it comes to blogs.

Lisa Stone and her two partners have started their own website, BlogHer.org

“In a way, blogher is like a phone directory for blogs by women, but TV Guide to the best of what women are blogging,” Stone told KCBS’s Patti Reising.

Sixty different editors oversee the site, whose director topics range from business and technology to wellness and parenting.

In many ways, this special corner of the web is no different than the general blogosphere, Stone said.

“What women blog about is no different than what men blog about, because women are blogging about everything under the sun,” she said. “Blogging was invented by a group of white male engineers, and God bless 'em, because this is fantastic technology that millions of women are enjoying using.”

In the next breath, though, she adds that many women prefer interactive content, opening up their blogs to comments from others.

“Women love to do that. It's the ultimate kitchen counter conversation,” she said.
