My Prayers are With the Families
I am so saddened by this senseless tragedy and as the wife, sister and daughter of police officers please know my prayers are with you and your loved ones.

Criminals Hero - Mixon
I can't believe that some people think this violent criminal is a hero. That's one part of the problem with those few that ruin a whole city. The cops are after you if you are doing crimes, figure it out. My condolence to the real hero’s who died so no one else would be a rape or gun victim from this violent criminal.
03/24/2009 8:21PM
Absolute sorrow
My heart goes out to ONLY the OPD and the families that have lost their loved ones. When I heard today about the DNA and the FACT that this monster was linked to the rape of a 12 year old CHILD, I was speechless. The nerve of any member of his family togo in front of a camera, and defend him is beyond anything that I can understand.
03/24/2009 8:42PM
Need better protection
No form of consolation can ever fill the gap the family, specially the children, wife and parents feel. I hope that OPD considers full suit potection for officers even for a traffic stop. I am still not able to comprehend that we had to loose two more lives on the same day knowing that this person was armed. Hope the OPD learns to plan such operation wisely.

So frustated?
The Lovelle family is stating that he was upset because he couldn't connect with his PO sounds like a bunch of crap.I hired someone, fresh out of Prison, non violent crime, in Oakland, and his PO would should up monthly, un-announced. At his home and job sight. Never knew when he was coming. He had to be accountable for every minute. If Lovelle couldn't connect with his PO, it was because he didn't want to. He had things to hide, such as the rape of a 12 year old child and who knows how many more. If he was distraught over not being able to get a job, where did the money come from, for him to get a car? And the weapons? The only thing that I can say is THANK GOD, HE IS DEAD. The Taxpayers will not have to pay for a trial. They will not have to pay for him to be in prison, have a bed to sleep in, 3 meals a day. He destroyed 4 families. For what? So that he wouldn't be sent back to prison? For raping a 12 year child? This man (no, he is not a man, he is a weasel a low life a scum bag and deserved what he got) OPD will never heal from this. KCBS is now reporting at this minute, that this asshole, may be responsible for the rape of 5 other minor's. I"m sure his family is proud of him now!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blame The Mayor Not The System
Now I know why I quit listening to KCBS, Your liberal station blames the system along with, Jerry Brown adding to those same sediments. Blame the mayor of Oakland, they lack the police presence the city needs, Oakland has rought 18 officers per 10,000people, Other citys of this size average 34-36, for crying out loud out the blame where it is do. The Police are out numbered. Get them some help DELLAMS.
03/24/2009 9:17PM
Some comfort
It's heartening to see and hear about the outpouring of support for the families of the fallen officers, and for the community in grief.
03/24/2009 9:30PM
It's not the Mayor
KCBS--Liberal? Are you kidding? Tune to other stations. KCBS is the most up-front and honest station around. They are news, not talk.

For what it's worth
The family of the Killer of these Police Officers wants to say what a great person he was. He has spent so many years (he was, what 26?), how did any of his family really know him. I have not heard anything from his parents. Are they of the same caliber too?
03/24/2009 11:50PM
The price for peace
Considering the criminal history of Mixon, a monster was slain and good has triumphed, but at a great price. The parolee has to want to change, the parole officers have an incredible workload but they can't change their minds.
03/25/2009 12:07AM
Ff or what it's worth--con't....
The last comment was incomplete, let me back-up and start over. From my point of view, his family may have known him as a child, but as an adult, he spent his life in prison. I have 3 boys, they didn't become responsible adults, until they were out of college and on THEIR OWN (at the age of 23). Unless his family visited him while incarcerated, on a regular basis, they had now idea who he was. He may have been sweet, DUH!!! Wake up- he was in jail, wanting to get out. You can blame the system, the Mayor, who-ever, this guy was a cold blooded killer, a rapist of little kid(S), and his family should bend over back wards and Thank the OPD for getting him off the streets. My heart is so heavy for the loss of these Officers. But Thankful that one less child rapist is off the streets. I will be at the Oracle to pay my respects to these wonderful men who lost their lives to this sick bastard and can only pray that this never happens again.

This is discusting...
To any family---What if a person, grabbed one of your family members (let's just say, umm a 12 year old female) dragged her off the street, put a bag over head, dragged her into a building and committed multiple sexual assaults, would you say he was a"great guy"? No matter what race, this creep would be considered horrible. This is the same person that murdered the Oakland Police Officers. And his family says he was a real sweet guy!
03/25/2009 1:25AM
Sorrow
This is so very sad. As an Oakland resident, we must come together to heal.
03/25/2009 1:26AM
His life of crime
This cop killer has been in trouble since he was 13, KTVU has just reported. It makes me sick, to think that that I paid taxes, so that this sick bastard could be fed, clothed and housed in jailed for 6 years. And too all those ignorant people who are posting the signs in Oakland, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Put you efforts toward something that makes a difference...RIP OPD OFFICERS!
03/25/2009 3:51PM
THUG
This is outrageous. I can't even look at his picture without wanting to spit on it. It sickens me that there are so many guns on the streets in the hands of people that don't care who is at the other end of the bullet. I think more time should be spent first by getting an education, then getting a JOB, getting married, having children and raising them the right way with morales and respect. What has happened to our society where it is okay to start having kids at 15, raised by someone other than the mother while the father is in prison or having children with someone else so when the kid grows up they either repeat the cycle of the mother or the father and nobody is accountable. We all need to start taking responsibility for ourselves and for those we bring into this world. I would hate to be a child in today's society because it has become a society of uncaring, disrespectful people.

Insights
It's stunning and sad to know four officers got killed by a dangerous runaway parolee. Two things to think about: 1) This killer was a drop-out after 9th grade and became a criminal for robbery then put into Jail for 6 years. Governor needs to budget more fund in Jail than in School. Failed education and family ends up adding heavy burden in society. Who should be responsible for that? 2) Why the training for cops is of such poor quality that no protection for themselves facing armed criminal while shoot un-armed people for protection? Who should be responsible for that?!

Killing Field
I have never been so ashamed of a city in my life. The people of East Oakland should be ashamed of themselves. I work in East Oakland and see things that I don't and won't see in any other community. People throwing garbage out windows of cars, running stop signs like they don't exist, animals wandering the streets hungry. It sickens me. I truly believe Oakland is a war zone that will never get better because of the mentality of those that live there. I am talking about the majority not the minority. I live it and see it daily and it sickens me that p eople can accept and condone that type of behavior. I see 10 and 12 year olds wandering the streets at night. What kind of parents are raising these children? The kids I talk to tell me they "dont have no mama" or she's in Santa Rita. My only hope is that they tire of killing each other and find another sport.

Solution
The biggest problem in Oakland is that most people do not trust cops. The word "Racial Profiling" has so much of stronghold whether true or not. The only option is that all the black cops in the bay area be transferred to Oakland PD and the rest non-black cops to other areas. Hopefully, this may ease the situation. I do agree to the comment "Insights" which I believe that the Governor should really consider.

Military Presence
Instead of sending all of our troops to Iraq and Afghanistan, it's time we use our military to clean up our own cities and schools and restore law and order.
03/26/2009 9:19PM
God Bless the Officers and their Families and Friends
Some people think that Mixon is a hero, that he should be honored, remembered and respected--perhaps with a monument. Well, let me tell you thar there is ALREADY a monument to Mixon. It's in every men's bathroom worldwide--In English it's called a URINAL.

Our Condolences
Our prayers goes to the families of the slain OPD officers. Its sad and upsetting that 4 heroes have to fall because of 1 worthless life. Its sad also to see some people supporting a criminal and rapist. What happened to this world? what happened to Oakland?

Thank You
As I drove my children to school today and saw the limousine that was picking up one of the families for todays services my heart was saddened. The father and husband of this family is gone. I can't express the sorrow that I feel right now. I just want to thank all of the officers that protect us everyday, thank you. My prayers go out to all of the families of these heroes. Thank you.

Sadness
My heart is with the families of these slain officers. I was driving to work this morning down 880 and saw the line of police cars with their lights on - the sad pain is still in my throat. As for Mixons family greive if they must be please stay out of the public eye - exposure only adds more pain to an already horrible pain
03/27/2009 6:05PM
Sorrow but set a limit
We are deeply sorrow for the lost of great officers. We always have great respect for those die on their line of duty. But please consider a limit of the memorial events. I think today's memorial is too much. Causing unnecessary disruption to people's life should be avoided. Thanks!
03/27/2009 7:27PM
Sorrow, pride and anger
I feel all three of these emotions at the same time...so proud of the officers who died and the ones who are still protecting us 24/7 in a thankless and dangerous environment. I am so angry that a worthless piece of humanity like Mixon was ever allowed freedom from incarceration. The world would be a significantly better place if people such as that man were sent to an island with others like themselves to live out the rest of their lives. They are beyond redemption and unworthy of any assistance. God bless the families of the officers who died.
03/27/2009 10:13PM
Sorrow. pride and anger
Worthless piece of humanity is putting this statement into AND only something that can be put on to the internet for viewing. The memorials today were from the heart, so very sad. Mixon was a piece of crap, someone, who should of never been out of prison.
03/27/2009 10:48PM
Amazing
I loved reading how a vigil was held for the suspect in this massacare. I can understand his immediate family grieving but to make him something he was not astonishes me. Did people forget he was also linked to several rapes including a 12 year old child. We love you OPD. Fight the good fight!
03/28/2009 5:36AM
Speechless
This has to be one of the saddest stories I have ever heard! This sick man, I mean he even looks sick, had the nerve to destroy four families FOREVER! What a ghetto sick bastard! I really want to reach out to the families of the police officers and help out in any way I can! My heart hurts and watching the service on the news tonight made my heart hurt. Tears filled my eyes as my heart felt rock hard! =[ May God bless the families of the officers and may the officers RIP!
03/28/2009 7:12PM
Deep Condolence
We express my deep condolence to the families of the fallen officers. They were the true gems of the Bay Area. Rest in Peace Officers. We salute you!
