Three Marin County Schools Locked Down after Bank Robbery



SAN ANSELMO, Calif. (KCBS)  -- A middle school, a high school and a preschool in San Anselmo were all placed on lockdown Friday as police searched for an armed suspect who robbed nearby Tamalpais Bank.

Students at Laurel Dell Elementary School, Davidson Middle School and Trinity Preschool were kept indoors during the search. Classes dismissed as their normal times with police officers supervising the students’ release.

So far the suspect—described as a Caucasian man in his early 20s with mid-length brown hair wearing no shoes—has eluded authorities. A spokeswoman for the San Rafael Police Department said the man lost his shoes during the pursuit.

The man brandished a gun when he robbed the bank on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard was robbed around 9:30 a.m., according to police.

The robber sped away on a motorcycle, but ditched the bike and ran on foot when officers started to pursue him. That’s also when he started losing his shoes and pieces of clothing.

The schools were locked down as a precaution.
