Twins' Disease Could Help AIDS Research



OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS)  -- Last year, KCBS introduced you to a set of twin girls coping with a rare and fatal childhood disease called Nieman-Pick or NPC. Its symptoms mimic Alzheimer's and there is no treatment.

But in this follow up to our KCBS Cover story, reporter Holly Quan tells us, doctors at Oakland's Children's Hospital say a simple sugar compound is showing promise in lab tests and may also help curb the spread of HIV.
