SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- San Jose police are investigating the cutting of four underground fiber optic cables that disrupted phone service to southern Santa Clara County and parts of Santa Cruz and San Benito counties.
The cables were located ten feet down a manhole at southbound Monterey Highway at Blossom Hill in South San Jose. The location of the cables indicate vandalism, and San Jose police are treating the area as a crime scene.
AT&T crews are making repairs, and estimates are that it will be at least 6 p.m. tonight before service is restored.
The outage which began about 2 a.m. Thursday affects both land lines and cellular phones.
