OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS) -- Regional public transit will be put to the test when Caltrans closes the Bay Bridge this Labor Day for four days of complicated construction work.
BART will run 24 hours with service at selected stations overnight, and is bracing for a crush of riders. It saw record breaking ridership during the 2007 bridge closure.
“We were the only game in town, and so clearly people have to rely upon something,” said BART spokesman Lynton Johnson.
Other transit agencies are also dusting off their back-up plans for a closure that this time will also include the Friday before the long weekend.
