San Francisco, Calif. (KCBS) -- There is nothing to prevent anyone from calling them self a dog walker, posting fliers, collecting keys and dogs and out the door one goes.
But KCBS reporter Margie Shafer says a push is underway to get dog walkers licensed in San Francisco.
Under the proposal dog walkers would have to pick up feces, be insured and transport dogs in vehicles with the proper restraints. They would also be limited to having six dogs at a time.
"Over the year I have received complaints and Animal Care and Control has received complaints and mostly it's 'I was in the park and someone had ten or 12 dogs on a leash at once," said an animal control official.
While not popular with all dog walkers it does have support among some pet owners like Brent Pelkee. "It would make it easier. If there were some kind of confrontation then the right people could be contacted and it just sounds like the responsible thing to do," he said.
Dog walkers are regulated in England and Australia.
