Murder Suspect's Domestic Violence Record

PLEASANT HILL, calif. (KCBS)  -- A Pleasant Hill man who was arrested for arson and murder Thursday had a history of domestic violence. Police say he may have killed in a jealous rage.

Robert Hoselton, 39, allegedly set fire to a home on 1600 Mary Drive where his estranged wife and their two young children lived. When police arrived at 4:35 p.m., they found Hoselton in the backyard with multiple self-inflicted injuries. He was taken a local hospital for treatment.

Later that evening, police responded to a second call from a woman who reported what appeared to be blood on front porch of a home on 2931 Dorothy Drive in Pleasant Hill.

Inside, police found the body of 42-year-old Manuel Gwin Jr., who had been stabbed multiple times.

Police allegedly found evidence that connected Hoselton to Gwin's killing and arrested him at the hospital on suspicion of murder.

Hoselton’s estranged wife described him in court documents as "irrationally jealous" and said he had threatened to kill her.

Police Chief Pete Dunbar says it's possible Hoselton thought his wife was having an affair and killed Gwin in a jealous rage.

Hoselton had been convicted May 26 of misdemeanor battery on a spouse and was sentenced to 50 days in jail, but the jail term was suspended and he was released.

A restraining order to stay away from his wife, however, was still in effect.
