OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS) -- It could be the largest illegal fireworks bust in Oakland history. Authorities arrested two men after discovering 2,000 pounds of professional grade fireworks at a home on 40th Avenue near International Boulevard Tuesday night.
KCBS’ Bob Melrose Reports
Undercover officers approached the home to make a purchase.
Oakland Police spokesman Jeff Thomason tells KCBS it's the latest in a series of operations the department has been conducting in the weeks before the July 4th weekend.
Thomason says officers found firearms in the home, one of them stolen, and another described as an illegal weapon. He says the men will be charged with possession of explosives.
Thomason describes the fireworks as high-grade and dangerous, with the potential to level two houses.
Oakland in recent years has experienced problems with illegal fireworks. Thomason says this year's operations represent a more aggressive push against them.
