SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KCBS) - An apparent indoor pot growing operation went up in flames and smoke early Friday morning.
Firefighters came upon the plants when responding to a structure fire at 236 Ortega Street in the city's Sunset District.
Neighbor Bill Murphy said he had heard suspicious noises in the past. "I would hear things, motors going on, maybe they had electrical generators, but I could hear something like that," described Murphy.

After being awakened by firefighters on his roof, battling the blaze next door, Murphy watched authorities remove an estimated 100 marijuana plants and other charred remains of the alleged pot growing operation.
At least one other neighbor expressed her suspicions, reporting that the often noticed an odor coming from the apartment.
By late Friday morning, police had arrested one of the two men believed to be renting the property.
