Officers responded to a shooting reported in the 200 block of Sixth Street at around 11:10 p.m., and found one man suffering gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to a hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.

Another shooting was reported just 15 minutes later in the 800 block of Alamo Avenue, where arriving officers found two people hit by gunfire.

A woman was hospitalized in stable condition, and a 40-year-old Richmond man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Then a third shooting was reported in the 4700 block of Hartnett Avenue at around 12:15 a.m., where responding officers found four gunshot victims.

Three were hospitalized in serious condition, police reported, and the fourth, a 28-year-old Richmond man, died at the scene.

”We an extra group of officers on the street right now with specialized weapons and tactics, ready to deal with any type of crime,” said Lt. Mark Gagan. “If this goes on again, we have officers out there. Really the most important thing though, is community involvement and people calling to tell us what they’re hearing and what happened.”

Police said that the suspects in each shooting fled the scene and have not been identified. Possible motives are still being investigated, and there was no indication that the incidents were related.

Richmond has now had 24 homicides this year. There were 17 at this time last year.
