ALAMEDA, Calif. (KCBS) -- A sharp decline is reported in the number of homeless people in Alameda County, and agencies believe they have a winning formula to get people into permanent housing.
It's a concerted effort spearheaded by a program called EveryOne Home.
KCBS' George Harris reports
Executive director Elaine deColigny says a 2009 survey shows a 10 percent decline since since 2007 of people living on streets, in shelters or in transitional housing. And that's not all.
"The reduction in the chronically homeless is even more impressive," she said. "Eighteen percent since 2007."
Agency heads say their focus on getting people into permanent housing within days instead of years is making the difference.
