SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- People with burning questions can now get an answer via a text message from San Jose librarians.
The San Jose Public Library is participating in a pilot program that will allow residents to text their queries and receive a quick response from San Jose Public Library and San Jose State University librarians.
Digital librarian Sarah Houghton-Jan said the process is simple: just send a text message to 66746 and start your question with "AskSJ."
KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports
"You can just pop it into their phone, do it quietly. They don't have to interrupt a quiet opera, let's say if they're asking us a question during the middle of a performance," she said. "It's not a problem. It's a wonderful technology in that texting can be done anytime, anywhere."
People can ask questions 24 hours a day, although the library will respond between the hours of 1 and 6 p.m.
And unlike commercially advertised companies that require payment for services, the library will provide the requested information, free of charge, although standard message rates for the user's mobile service will apply.
