2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5i PZEV
|
Subaru has gone sharply upscale in everything except price for its new Legacy sedan. In fact, the starting price for the 2010 is $800 lower than the previous model---an apparent tribute to the company sales record when most other companies were in the tank.
Not only does the 2010 sedan have a new and roomier body, with an exceptionally generous back seat, but the powertrain is improved--the 2.5i 4 cylinder boxer engine develops 175 horsepower in standard form, and 265 with a turbo. The automatic also is a new version called Lineartronic CVT--ultra smooth and quiet. Subarus all-wheel drive continues as standard.
Our test car--a pre-production sample had no price attached to it, but the company's price list indicates that most 4 cylinder cars with automatic will be in the 20 to $25,000 range, and 6 cylinders 25 to 30.
Gas mileage on our test car --in the low 30s on the road.
Oh yes--what does PZEV stand for--partial zero emissions vehicle---about as pure an engine as you'll find.
