SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- BART and ferries will offer additional service while the Bay Bridge is closed beginning Thursday at 8 p.m., but the costs of offering additional transit options won't come cheap.
KCBS’ Margie Shafer Reports
BART is adding extra service during the day, and will run until midnight monday while the bridge is closed.
"It's about $100,000 per day in cost for the additional BART service," said John Goodwin with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Bay Area Toll Authority.

The BART cost is built into the Caltrans project.
Additionally, the Bay Area Toll Authority ensures ferry operators won't take a loss.
"We will essentially reimburse them the cost of their additional service, minus the cost of the extra tickets that they sell," said Goodwin.
During the closure, the Bay Bridge is expected to lose $1.8 million in toll revenues, which will be offset somewhat by the increased revenue at other toll bridges.
The bridge closes at 8pm Thursday, and is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday.
