SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- Owners of the Great America theme park in Santa Clara are raising fresh concerns about a possible 49ers football stadium deal. The park owners, Cedar Fair hint that they may sue if they don't get more concessions out of the deal.
KCBS’ Betsy Gebhart Reports
In a letter from the Great America theme park to the city of Santa Clara, the owners say they have not been properly insulated against a potential business loss if a football stadium is built right next door to the amusement park. But Santa Clara Assistant City Manager Ron Garratt insists that Great America’s interests are protected, and he has encouraged Cedar Fair to look at the upside.
”We have talked to Cedar Fair about the opportunities that would evolve from bringing 68,000 people into this area on a particular day ten times a year,” said Garrett.
He points out that most recent discussions had been between Cedar Fair and the Niners about the team possibly buying Great America. The 49ers are declining comment on that, and KCBS’ calls to Cedar Fair have gone unreturned.
