UC Berkeley Officer to be Honored

SAN RAMON, Calif. (KCBS)  -- The police specialist who helped find Jaycee Dugard will be honored Monday by Congressman Jerry McNerney of Pleasanton.

Lisa Campbell, the manager of the UC Berkeley Police Department's special events unit will be honored at a ceremony in San Ramon.

Campbell spoke with Phillip Garrido on August 24 on the school's campus where he was with two young girls, later determined to be his and Dugard's daughters.

She ran a background check on him after finding his actions suspicious, learning he was a registered sex offender on federal parole.

Garrido and his wife Nancy were later arrested for the alleged kidnapping of Jaycee Dugard.

An official Congressional Record Statement will be added to the record of the U.S. House of Representatives and McNerney will present Campbell with a printed and framed copy at the ceremony.
