SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The San Francisco Food Bank's freezer Friday received 100,000 pounds of chicken thanks to a social networking initiative.
The many boxes unloaded from Tyson trucks Twittered there way to the food bank as part of an initiative called "The Hunger Challenge."
"We're trying to get people to understand what it would be like if they had to eat on the average amount of money someone who qualifies and receives food stamps get," said Paul Ash, the food bank's executive director.

Tyson said if enough people went to their Website willing to try eating for just $4 a day, they would kick in 100,000 pounds of chicken. Word went out via Twitter and the volunteer hungry signed on.
"Over 6,000 of them went to that Website and made that connection," said Ash.
Meanwhile, living on food stamps is unfortunately not going out of style any time soon.
"We're not seeing the need level off. There still seem to be new people joining the ranks of people who need food assistance," Ash explained.
Those may be working people who've had their hours cut and sometimes two jobs now to make ends meet. Ash said go to the food pantries and you don't see the unemployed but rather the underemployed trying not to go hungry.
