SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- Wednesday night, California high-speed rail officials will unveil several different options to build miles of track along the peninsula, but many residents say they would prefer to have a tunnel built for the bullet trains.
KCBS’ Matt Bigler Reports
Whether a tunnel is chosen, or instead a series of raised bridges, many Peninsula residents say they want to avoid the project taking over any private property, or becoming a massive eyesore. Noise is another major concern.
High-speed rail officials have listened to residents concerns and will present their findings for different track options Wednesday night at a meeting in San Carlos.
Rod Diridon, who is on the board for the California High-Speed Rail Authority says that they’ve selected the best consultants in the world to design the tracks.
”They’re going to look at every aspect of the possible use of the quarter, whether it’s underground, in a trench, on grade, or on an elevated structure,” said Diridon.
Officials are expected to research the different options through the end of this year, and then launch an environmental study next year.
