NAPA, Calif. (KCBS) - The Napa County Public Health Division has been forced to cancel two seasonal flu clinics due to delayed vaccine shipments from the state and exceptionally high demand, according to the department.
Eight public vaccination clinics were originally scheduled for September and October, but two were cancelled and one was rescheduled, officials said.
Today's clinic in Calistoga and an Oct. 14 clinic in Angwin have been cancelled, a public health spokeswoman said. They might be rescheduled if more vaccines are available in the future.
A third clinic in Yountville has been rescheduled for Oct. 14, and an Oct. 12 clinic will be held in American Canyon.
"We had nearly double our estimated number of attendees," at previous clinics, said County Public Health Officer Karen Smith. "This is great for controlling flu in our community, but difficult in terms of planning."

Smith added that the state has experienced vaccine distribution glitches, which has resulted in a temporary shortage of seasonal flu vaccine in Napa County.
The Oct. 12 clinic will be at Olympia Mobilodge in American Canyon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 244 American Canyon Road.
The Oct. 14 clinic will be at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Yountville from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 1920 Finnell Road.
