Teenager Filmmaker in SF Festival

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)  -- Documentary filmmakers from around the world are in San Francisco for "Doc Fest '09," which began this weekend. One of them is still a teenager.

The film 18-year-old Cory Tomascoff made is called "Among the Giants." It's about the Adaptive Design Association, a New York nonprofit that makes customized equipment for people with disabilities.

ListenKCBS' Melissa Culross reports

Tomascoff says he has submitted his 23-minute film to twenty festivals so far but mostly has received rejection letters. However, "Among the Giants" has been accepted to the San Francisco Documentary Film Festival or Doc Fest, which features documentaries from all over the world.

While Tomascoff is honored to have been accepted to the festival at such a young age, he considers the subjects of his film, two women who use equipment built by the company featured in the documentary to be far more impressive, and he says how strong they are as individuals is evident in the movie.

Tomascoff made "Among the Giants" as a senior in high school. He\'s now studying cinema and photography at Ithaca College in New York.
