SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KCBS) - Today pockets of the Bay Area areexpecting rain, heaviest north of San Francisco, and highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s across the region. South winds of 10 to 20 mph are anticipated.
The potential for downpour has residents of an area near Watsonville back on edge.
Many were evacuated during heavy rains last week, though they were able to enjoy a dry weekend back at home.
KCBS' Matt Bigler reports
Santa Cruz County officials said mandatory evacuation orders for 50 homes near Eureka Canyon Road were lifted Friday. Residents of about 80 homes in the area had been ordered on Tuesday, when heavy rains caused or threatened mudslides in the area. The evacuation order was reduced to about 50 homes by Wednesday.
Nobody was hurt in Tuesday's storm and mudslide, though one home was damaged.
The current forecast for a chance of rain in the region has residents of this mountainous area once again bracing for possible mudslides. The Summit Fire burned 4,200 acres in the Santa Cruz Mountains last may. Much of the foliage in the area - trees and brush that hold the soil together - burned in the fire. Making matters worse, ash often creates a thin crust that sheds water and leads to flash flood warnings.
