BERKELEY, Calif. (KCBS) -- UC Berkeley is nearly giving away two historical homes, in order to make way for some new academic buildings, but there is a catch.
KCBS’ Bob Butler Reports
The wooden homes were built around 1900, and need to be moved out of the area, so the school is selling them for $1 each, on the contingency that the new owner move them out of the area.
”Whoever buys them needs to move them themselves, and pay for all of those costs,” says college spokeswoman Christine Shaff.
You have to send your dollar, and a proposal on where and when you’re going to move them to the university by November 16th. You also have to send a check for $100,000 as a sign of good faith.
If nobody takes the school up on its offer, the homes will be torn down to eventually make way for new buildings. In the short time though, students may be happy to hear that the area could be used as a new parking lot.
