Mendocino County Calls for Marijuana Legalization

hand holds pot plantSAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)  -- Mendocino County supervisors voted 4-1 in favor of seeking legalization as a way of regulating and taxing marijuana.

Supervisor Mike Delbar, who cast the lone dissenting vote, said he is not happy with the image Mendocino County is gaining. He added he is concerned about what will happen to local youths if they grow up seeing marijuana use and cultivation as normal.

Mendocino County is joining in a growing movement, according to Dale Gieringer of the California chapter of the National Organization for the Legalization of Marijuana.

"Mendocino County is adding itself to a list of California cities and local governments that have called for legalization of marijuana," he said.

Gieringer argues the nation’s “war on drugs” has failed and therefore should end.
