2010 Ford Escape Hybrid
|
While some hybrids seem rather small and delicate, Ford's Escape Hybrid remains a rugged, roomy, medium-size SUV, and yet achieves impressive mileage---31 to 34.
Power comes from a 2.5 liter I-4 coupled to an ECVT automatic--very smooth and with adequate pep, although of course not the equal of Fords V6. I found the Hybrid reasonably quiet except for a bit of engine noise in the 25 mile an hour range while pulling our Bay Area hills.
Steering is precise, ride comfortable, brakes powerful.
The controls are easy to understand, and Ford has not cluttered the instrument panel with useless gadgetry, or at least gadgetry I don’t understand.
Our test car, the top of the line, came at a base price of $32,260, but adding full leather, heated seats, power moonroof and navigation brought it to $35,775.
