OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS) -- State court officials have recommended Los Angeles and San Diego counties as possible sites for the murder trail of former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle.
The family of Oscar Grant said they prefer Los Angeles County, that according to their attorney John Burris.
The trial was ordered moved last month after a judge ruled that Mehserle could not get a fair trial in Alameda County.
Mehserle is facing murder charges in the shooting death of Oscar Grant on New Year's Day at the Fruitvale BART Station.
Judge Morris Jacobson has not said when he will choose a county, but said he will consult with both sides before making a decision.
The state suggested Los Angeles and San Diego counties because they were willing and able to host the trial, which is expected to require special security and media arrangements.
Burris said Los Angeles is the preferred county because of its size, diversity, urbanity and familiarity with issues surrounding race and police-community relations.
