San Jose One Step Closer to Downtown Med. Clinic

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS)  -- The prospect of an urgent care clinic in downtown San Jose has taken a big step forward, as preliminary plans have now been approved by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.

The downtown clinic will provide primary and urgent care walk-in services from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Board of Supervisor’s President Liz Kniss says there has been an outcry for a new facility ever since the closure of San Jose Medical Center five years ago.

”There has been an organized group of citizens in the downtown area who has been coming to our meetings ever since the downtown hospital closed,” said Kniss. “They have demanded this happen, and we are about to deliver.”

County Chief Operating Officer Gary Graves said that one option being explored is to use part of the old hospital site at 17th and Santa Clara. A site is expected to be chosen sometime next month.
