San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum has been cited for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after being stopped for speeding in Washington.
Washington State Patrol trooper Steve Schatzel says an officer pulled Lincecum over around 8:30 last Friday morning on I-5 about four miles north of the Oregon/Washington border.
Schatzel says the officer says Lincecum was driving 74 in a 60 mile-an-hour zone. When the driver rolled down his window, the trooper noticed the smell of marijuana in the car and told Lincecum to hand over the marijuana. Schatzel says LIncecum reached into his dashboard console and handed over a small amount of marijuana and a pipe.
Schatzel says the trooper determined that Lincecum was not impaired, so he was cited and released.
Schatzel says the amount of marijuana measured was 3.3 grams, which police consider a small amount for personal use.
Lincecum will be cited $122 for speeding. He faces a fine of $500 on the charges of marijuana and paraphernalia possession.
Lincecum won the 2008 National League Cy Young Award after going 18-5 with a 2.62 earned-run average and 265 strikeouts.
