SFCC Cancels Summer School Classes

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)  -- City College of San Francisco will be offering very few, if any, classes this summer. Summer school classes at the community college are being cancelled because of funding cuts.

The state has slashed the budget for community colleges and CCSF took a $20 million hit, which adds up to about 900 classes in the summer.

ListenKCBS' Barbara Taylor reports

Community College Board President Milton Marks says it's a big impact.

"It's bad for City College students, some of whom have one class to take and they thought they were going to be graduating and going to SF State in the fall," he said. "Now they're going to have to come back in the fall and postpone transfer."

This decision also affects some high school students who have been taking summer classes at CCSF because their summer school was cancelled by the San Francisco school district.

The class cancellations come at the same time that enrolment at CCSF is up. There's about 2,500 more students than last year making it even harder for students to take the classes they need to complete their programs.
