Fiorina: Boxer Less Scary Than Chemotherapy

Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina kicked off her run for the U.S. Senate this week, taking on not just Barbara Boxer, but her fight with cancer. One long time political consultant thinks she made the right move in dealing with her illness right away.

"I must tell you that after chemotherapy, Barbara Boxer really isn't very scary anymore," Fiorina told a group of Pleasanton business leaders.

Fiorina has shed her wigs recently and revealed her buzz cut.

ListenKCBS' Janice Wright reports

Political consultant Leo McElroy says candidates with illnesses must weigh how many people would vote against a person with a disease versus the sympathy vote.

Hiding a disease could kill a campaign, McElroy says, and he thinks in Fiorina' case, the cancer revelation could help humanize her as a candidate. "She has a bit of a real tough person reputation from her days with Hewlett-

(ewi)Packard," he said.
