FOR THE LOVE OF MOVIES: THE STORY OF AMERICAN FILM CRITICISM
|
(not rated)
We live in weird times for movie critics. On the one hand there are critic proof blockbusters, appealing to kids who could care less about reviews, flock to the movies in droves and buy the merchandise. On the other hand, everyone is a critic blogging reviews. But this beautifully made, intelligent documentary is a historical and completely modern look at film criticism. Director Gerry Perry goes from Pauline Kael to Ebert to today's online community, demonstrating movies that inspire and the people who have a passion to write about them. This is for everyone who loves movies, and wants to understand what keeps us all going and hoping, or what forces some to have their heart broken by Hollywood.
