MENLO PARK, Calif. (KCBS) -- Menlo Park police are searching for two drivers whose street car racing on Thursday led to the death of a six-year-old girl.
The child's mother is still in the hospital with head trauma and broken bones.
Menlo Park Police Sergeant William Dixon said investigators have confiscated some key evidence in this deadly hit-and-run crash.
"One of the vehicles was left at the scene and officers in our investigations division have been working throughout the night on following up on further leads and doing what we can to identify and take into custody the suspect," Dixon said.
Dixon said the girl was in the back seat riding with her mom and dad near the intersection of Bayfront Expressway and Willow Road when they were hit by a Ford Mustang, which officers said was racing with another vehicle.
The drivers were traveling at speeds of up to 70 miles an hour when they ran a red light at the intersection and collided.
Officers said the suspects could face the possibility of being charged with murder or vehicular manslaughter.
