More Car Fires in East Bay

RICHMOND, Calif. (KCBS)  -- Two more cars have been found burned in Richmond, but it is still unclear if the latest blazes are part of a series of car arson fires in the East Bay.

The latest fires, like the more than dozen others have occurred at night in unsecured vehicles.

One car burned just before midnight Tuesday at 12th and Roosevelt and a second around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 4300 block of Center Avenue.

"We are currently investigating those fires as possible arson," said Richmond Fire Engineer Rico Rincon. "We haven't confirmed or denied that they are connected to the previous fires we've been having over the pat few weeks."

No one has been injured in any of the fires, even as some have burned in driveways next to homes as people sleep.

"It doesn't take very long, we're talking about maybe a matter of minutes from the beginning to a car being fully involved in fire," Rincon said.

San Pablo, Richmond and the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District are handing over their findings to police agencies that are working together to create a suspect profile.
