SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) - City leaders will examine some 200 arrests in San Jose to determine whether police used excessive force during the incidents.
This comes on the wake of a now-notorious video that shows officers beating and shocking an unarmed college student.
The arrest probe, passed by San Jose's public safety committee, was recommended by Mayor Chuck Reed, who told KCBS he's troubled by the cell phone video showing a Vietnamese college student being beaten by officers. "I, too, am concerned about the circumstances and what the video shows and we're going to get to the bottom of it," he declared.
Around 200 arrests this year will now be reviewed by the City Manager, the independent Police Auditor and the City Auditor to determine whether excessive force has been used.

Police Chief Rob Davis said it's too early to tell whether his officers broke the law. "I'm going to withhold my final judgment on that until I have all the facts before me, but as I've stated, I don't know how you can't be troubled by what you see in the video."
A recent review of resisting arrest cases found that officers used force more than two-thirds of the time.
