OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS) -- Long term airport parking can be expensive, but you can find bargains during the Thanksgiving holiday season. BART is set to nearly double the number of spaces available at East Bay and Peninsula stations.
It begins the day before Thanksgiving when spaces tend to go unused by daily BART riders; over 1,400 reserved parking spots will be up grabs.
KCBS’ George Harris Reports
"Most stations have reserved parking areas and that's a place where if you get there before 10 o'clock, we guarantee that you'll have a spot if you paid for that spot," said BART spokesman Linton Johnson.
Johnson said its only $5 a day in the East Bay and $6 at Peninsula stations. And getting one of those parking permits is simple.
"The only way you can get it is online at BART.gov/parking. You can't buy one at the station so that's a very important point that you want to make sure that you go online and buy that spot," said Johnson.
The program runs through November 30th, but remember, BART considers the Friday after Thanksgiving a normal weekday so parking regulations will be enforced.
