UCSC Admin Building Damaged By Protests

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KCBS)  -- About 70 people at UC Santa Cruz ended a four day protest inside of Kerr Hall early Sunday with no arrests, but educational sanctions and even criminal charges are possible.

Campus spokesman Barry Shiller says the protest did a lot of damage to the administration building.

ListenKCBS' Tim Ryan reports

"One floor in particular is trashed and we're expecting it's going to be able to take days to be able to get it back into habitable condition," Shiller said.

UC police say students may be identified through video from inside Kerr Hall.

A secure area near the chancellors' office was reportedly broken into. There is no dollar estimate on damage and cleanup. Students were protesting last week's decision by UC Regents to raise tuition by 32 percent.
