FAIRFIELD, Calif. (KCBS) -- More than 100 Solano County employees will soon be cleaning out their desks following a vote in Fairfield by county supervisors.
The board said they wanted to try to get a jump on a projected $18 million deficit before it gets worse. They have decided to try to chop that amount in half, resulting in 118 layoffs and the loss of 166 positions.
County probation officer Jennifer Day was one of many feeling down about the news.

"Financially, I'm looking at how I'm going to pay my mortgage, how am I going to continue living in my home, which is here in Fairfield," Day said.
Meanwhile, all 25 sheriff service technicians, the people who process bookings and schedule court dates, are losing their jobs, including John Kekich.
"It's going to be devastating because my wife works for the sheriff's department also and she's up for elimination in another office," said Kekich. "So, we're looking at both of us losing our jobs here very shortly."
Sheriff Gary Stanton told county supervisors he doesn't want to lose any of his SST employees, but the reality is “I can’t make payroll.”
One county official said he noticed that all department heads in the Board chamber were dressed like they were going to a funeral because they were losing employees.
