GILROY, Calif. (KCBS) -- Medical pot is getting a reprieve in the city of Gilroy after a judge has decided to allow the upstart pot club to reopen after police forced it to shut down.
KCBS’ Matt Bigler Reports
The Medi-Leaf Cannabis Collective opened on Monday, November 9th and police shut it down that same week. But now, a judge has overturned that order.
Eric Madigan, ombudsman for the pot club, says this is great news for them, and their members.
”We’ve had close to 500 members sign up in just three weeks,” said Madigan. “And 80 percent of them are from Gilroy, and 30 percent of those Gilroy residents are over 60 years old, so the service was obviously needed.”
Still, the battle over medical marijuana in the town is far from over.
”The City of Gilroy will pursue this to get a final decision as to trying to get this Medi-Leaf shut down,” said Gilroy Mayor Al Pinheiro.
The city still has a preliminary injunction against the pot club, which will be decided in court on December 14th.
