SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCBS) - A bill to legalize marijuana is expected to be heard in Sacramento next week.
The measure, by State Assemblymember Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, would legalize marijuana for people 21 and older.
Assemblymember Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, who sits on the state's public safety committee, suggested it could reduce drug abuse among school children. "Today, you know, minors and young people, high school students, they can get marijuana pretty easily," said Hill. "A lot easier than they can get alcohol in many cases, and the reason for that is alcohol is controlled, it is regulated."

Supporters also argue that the legalization of marijuana in California could generate substantial tax revenue.
