SEATTLE, Wash. (KCBS/AP) -- One person was killed and at least five people were wounded in a shooting Friday at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle. One person has been arrested.
Seattle police say they're confident there was only one gunman behind the shooting, and that they have that person in custody. There were initial media reports that a second gunman was being sought.
A fire department spokeswoman says at least two women, ages 23 and 29, were shot, a third woman was shot, and one person suffered a knee injury that may have been caused by shattered glass or a gunshot.
The Seattle Times reports one of the wounded is described as a 43-year-old woman who was shot in the abdomen, while another is described as 17 weeks pregnant.
One witness told The Times that a man got through security at the building and told staff members: "I'm Muslim American. I'm angry at Israel,'' then began shooting.
A SWAT team had been searching the downtown building for any other possible victims or shooters, Seattle Police spokesman Rich Pruitt said.
"People got shot, some of our co-workers," Patti Simon said in a phone interview, her voice shaking. "I just got back from Israel and made it out of there a half hour before the [Hezbollah terrorist] rockets started."
Simon, who sells advertising for the federation's newspaper, was working on the first floor when she heard screaming, shots and what sounded like furniture crashing on the floor above.
"We heard this horrible screaming on the floor above us and shots," the 52-year-old said. "We didn't know what was happening."
Simon called up to her co-workers on the second floor, but got no answer, so she called the police and fled the building.
Police blocked off several city blocks to investigate.
Simon said the federation building has security.
"Somebody must have lied their way in," she said.
