SAN JOSE (KCBS) -- A lot of Californians want to have a hand in the re-drawing of state Senate and Assembly districts. KCBS reports so far more than 20 thousand people have applied to be part of a new 14 member citizens’ redistricting commission.
“In fact the past eleven days since radio ads kicked in, we’ve received as many applications in those eleven days as we had five or six weeks prior to that,” stated state auditor Elaine Howle.
KCBS’ Mike Colgan reports
“This is historic. This is the first truly independent citizens’ redistricting commission, not only in California, but in the United States,” added Howle. The surge of applicants is indicative of how fed up voters are with the current process.
It just goes to show that the power of radio is alive and well. The number of people applying to be part of a citizen’s commission to re-draw state assembly and senate districts surged following the launch of a radio ad campaign.
