SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Baseball fans in town for the All-Star Game have been doing exactly what city officials had hoped, spending money all over San Francisco.
The mayor’s office projected the event, here for only the third time, would generate $60 and $65 million in revenue for the city at hotels, restaurants, and in retail sales.
Sharon Medder was what city officials hoped would be typical of the projected 250,000 attendees. She spent all five days at the fan fest.
“I bought a jacket, shirts, pins, glasses. Stuff,” she laughed. “No husband, no kids, no boyfriend, I can afford whatever I want.”
She estimates she’s dropped $300 so far just on souvenirs, and she hasn’t checked out of her hotel room yet.
